To establish serial port settings:

1 FromtheProfilestab,selecttheprofilefromtheProfileList.

2 ClickEdit.

IntheMobile Device Server Profiletab,findtheServer Resourcesregion.

3 IntheReserved Serial Portstextbox,specifytheserialportsyouwanttoreserveforthe

mobiledeviceservertouse.

4 Saveyourchanges.

IfyouareusingAvalancheSE,themobiledeviceserverisupdatedwiththechanges.Ifyou

areusingAvalancheMC,youmustdeploythechangestotheserver.

Inadditiontoconfiguringthemobiledeviceserverforserialupdates,youmustalsosetthe

Enablertoupdateoveraserialconnection.Forinformationonhowtoconfigurethis,see

ConnectionTabonpage33.

NOTE:TheAvalancheConsoledoesnotsupportUSBconnectionstomobiledevices.

Preparing the Server for a WLAN Connection

Wirelessupdatesarethepreferredmethodforupdatingthemobiledevice.Thefollowingtasks

ensurethemobiledeviceandtheMobileDeviceServercancommunicate:

• EnsurethattheMobileDeviceServerandthemobiledevicehaveavalidIPaddress.

• EnsurethatthemobiledeviceisconfiguredwiththecorrectIPaddressoftheMobile

DeviceServer.

• Ensurethatthemobiledeviceisconfiguredwiththecorrectwirelessnetworkparameters

(ESSID,encryptionmethod,andencryptionkeys).

• EnsurethatanyfirewallservicebetweenthemobiledeviceandtheMobileDeviceServer

allowsAvalanchetraffic.ForinformationontheportsusedbyAvalanche,seethe

AvalancheUserGuideappendix.

• IfthemobiledeviceandtheMobileDeviceServerareonseparateIPnetworks,ensurethat

eachhasavalidIProutetotheother.

IfthedevicehasWWANcapabilities,itcansendreportsandreceiveupdatesevenwhena

WLANconnectionisnotavailable.IfyouwantthedevicetouseaWWANconnectionwhena
